You’re invited on Disney and Pixar’s newest adventure... ELIO.
Meet Elio: A boy who finds himself transported across the galaxy & mistaken for the intergalactic Ambassador for our planet Earth.
Starring America Ferrera as Olga Solis and Yonas Kibreab as Elio. Directed by Adrian Molina & Produced by Mary Alice Drumm, Disney and Pixar’s Elio lands in Spring 2024.
“Elio” is a new project from the studio that centers on an 11-year-old named Elio who is just trying to fit in. His mother is working on a top secret military project to decode alien messages, but its Elio who accidentally makes first contact and becomes the de facto emissary for Earth.
The Wrap wrote:Of the original projects in the hopper, one is “Elio,” slated for release next year and previewed at last year’s D23 Expo. It’s about a young boy (the title character) who gets mistaken by aliens as an ambassador from earth. It’s being directed by Adrian Molina, a low-key Pixar powerhouse who co-directed “Coco” and who, Docter was quick to point out, storyboarded the scene where Mr. Potato Head uses a tortilla as a body in “Toy Story 4.” “It’s a really special film,” Docter said. “We just watched it two days ago, version… let’s see, what was that … Screening eight. They’re getting towards the end. They’re got to finish it up. Comes out next year. But it’s really brilliant. I think people are really going to love it.
Sci-fi angle is still a little worrisome, but I do think the little boy is cute.
It's looking between cute and meh. The alien council scene was playful and fun, reminded me of the opening of Lilo & Stitch. Elio's voice is adorable! I'm guessing he has Amblyopia. I just thought he was wearing the patch for fun and to look tougher. Loved the Burrow reference!
It’s all a bit Pixar doing it’s Pixar thing, but that’s not all bad. Lots of fun things to look forward to, the memory wipe guy looks a bit too Zurg, and agree on the council, but there’s also a slight H2G2 vibe too.
Shouldn’t it be Disney101, though? It’s not out until '24…
My first thought was it looks like a reverse Lilo & Stitch. And that's not a bad thing. I'm keen to see more and I enjoyed that it teased us the story without revealing the story.
My only concern is that it's a space story, and while there are exceptions eg WALL-E, so many animated space stories are ignored by the public.
