Having heard rumors of a sequel to Cars, Blue Sky Disney, now points to MiceAge, whose sources claim that Cars 2 is scheduled for 2009. The word was published by MiceAge as the Editor's Daily Note for Wednesday, May 30. Nonetheless, one should certainly take the speculation with a grain of salt, since no official confirmation for the sequel has arrived. Meanwhile, both sites agree that a new Cars short film is in the works, to be released possibly next year.
What are your thoughts on this? Personally, I find it a little hard believe. Seems to sudden for a sequel, much less one that nobody expected to. Than again, Pixar is known for keeping things under wrapped, so it is possible.
With that in mind, if this does turn out to be true, I think its a... good decision? Half of me says "no, it was a perfect stand alone film" but the other half says, "Cars is the kind of movie that could benefit from a sequel" in short, I'm undecided.
Even if this all proves to be false, its cool were at least getting a new short! Loved the Mater one!
