He's also mentioned in the very first sentence of the John Canemaker book Paper Dreams: The Art and Artist of Disney Storyboards

Story artist Chris Williams stands tall and gangly before two large corkboards on which ninety-six of his sketches are neatly pinned
The book is on Amazon.com You have to be a member to read the first page. :?

Here's another article that mentions him, and has a photo too:

Hmm...He sounds okay. Hopefully he's the best one to take over for Chris. :)

I thought I'd support Jim Hill by linking to some really interesting articles he's written in the past. They're quite fascinating and are interesting for context and background to the Disney/Pixar situation (maybe not 100% accurate, but still interesting! ;) )

Ahhh, Rocketeer...my fave film of summer 1991.
Really? Mine was Naked Gun 2 1/2! :P

J/K  I remember I liked Rockateer a lot though (I did see it in the theater)....just don't remember THAT much about it. I know it had something to do with Nazis right?

BTW, does it ever bug you that MANY films hence have stolen the Rockateer theme to play on their trailers?

It's a great theme. Perhaps one of Horner's best.

American Dog

Post by chernabog » February 13th, 2007, 12:27 pm

Over at JimHill is an article about the story changes happening to American Dog:

I sincerely hope Lasseter knows what he's doing over at Disney because at the minute this film sounds woefully dull.

Thanks for the heads-up Chern.

On the one hand, I think the film changes sound cute BUT still way too much like Toy Story....and about 180 degrees away from what Chris Sanders really wanted....

The film isn't being "re-done"--it basically got cancled. The only thing I can see that's the same is the whole "dog" concept. That's it.

Re--shaping a movie is one thing....changing it in favor of making a completely different film is something else....

blah blah blah! As if story changes in movies production just happened with Pixar 's arrival. These kind of pratics are casual in animation like it or not! And they were WORSE under Eisner's reign (Chicken Little from chick to dick anyone?). Just wait before condamning anything... I think that even Sanders is more intelligent than that about the recent events.

My take on this is that American Dog was going to be derivative either way. Sanders' version sounded a bit like "Cars" and Lasseter's version sounds like "Toy Story". I enjoyed "Lilo & Stitch" very much, but you have to admit that JL knows how to make a good, fun and profitable movie in his sleep. I say we all wait until the movie comes out before passing judgement. That's what I'm going to do.

OK so why is Pixar saying that they'll give the power back to the directors and that WDFA should be a "director-driven" studio...???

I LOVE the original designs....I might even make them into my avatar just to prove a point....

LOVE that eyepatch doggie! :) Can't believe he's gone....

(BTW, has anyone here seen what Chris Sanders looks like? Maybe this is neither here nor there, but the man is HOT!!!! :D I hope he ends up at DreamWorks! Go Chris! :) )

I don't care if JL didn't like "Lilo and Stitch"--A TON of people did, and that means something. If John and Ed don't think that's important, that's their problem. The world doesn't revolve around them--everyone has different feelings. Maybe they don't like "quirky" humor, or maybe they don't like "Shrek" humor--fine, whatever. Lots of people out there do.

Eww, it does sound to much like Toy Story. :? And if it was still Sanders, it would sound to much like Cars as well.

Either way, at this time, the movie doesn't sound to promising. Sounds bland.

And yeah, I miss the eye patch dog! :(

Oh, and if Chris did leave Disney, they made a huge mistake. End of story. -- If it is true, I really do hope DW hires him! :)

By any chance, does it remind anyone here of Ed TV or the Truman Show? (It also sounds a lot like the plot for Nurse Betty--has anyone seen that?)
Oh, and if Chris did leave Disney,
I think he's definetely gone. Ben said he was laid off with all the other 160 animators. :(

I'm sure that Chris had more planned than what we heard (after all we only got the "pitch" part of it). Anyway, I don't see Chris' quirky humor, originality and unique designs as being anywhere near what Cars was--mostly photo-realistic, cutsie-pie images coupled with a Doc Hollywood storyline and sentimentality up the tailpipe. Chris' AD looked anything but sentimental.....:P
