Yes, it is all terribly sad, not just for Heath, his family, (and Terry Gilliam, who is a great director) but for the millions of people who will not be able to witness Heath's amazing talent in the years to come. :(

Not that this is at all that important but out of curiosity:

There has been lots of speculation about how TDK will be marketed now. I couldn't help wondering, and it hasn't been discussed at all--if WB does decide to cut back on the Joker promotions, will will be seeing more of Two-
Face's presence? Or possibly the rumored Scarecrow appearance?

It's just going to be so strange watching the movie knowing Heath is gone. I can't help wondering if possibly next year he will get some kind of posthumous honoring of his role as the Joker.

The latest on Doctor Parnassus is that Gilliam is talking to his friend Johnny Depp about stepping into Heath's role.

Apparently, the Ledger character steps or falls through a magic mirror and could legitimately take on another look, meaning minimal reshoots and allowing another actor to fill in.

Depp is physically built the same as Ledger and could be made up to look more like him, or as the character he was going to be playing in the green-screen scenes. Apart from working with Tim Burton, Depp's other onscreen partner of the past few years has been Gilliam, with whom he has wanted to work again, particularly on Don Quixote, which if rights issues can be untangled, they would resume shooting due to Depp's newfound popularity guaranteeing the production funds this time around.

With Depp on promotional rounds for Sweeney Todd, he's not actually working right now, so the timing could be good. It's an interesting solution and one that sounds like - in Gilliam's world at least - might just work.

I hope so! :)

Christopher Nolan has written a very touching article about Heath Ledger, for Newsweek.

Although it's still rather sobering (to say the least) to be reflecting on this topic, here's an interesting article on Aaron Eckhart/Two Face.

Seriously awesome:

http://black20.com/black20-trailer-park/battle-batmans

How would all the (modern-day, live-action) Batmans square up to each other if they had to fight?

Perhaps TOO excellently compiled...could this be some kind of WB viral thing?
