Actually, ShyViolet, you're talking about the 'remake' series .. several older fans of the original 1960's The Alvin Show felt the same way about the 1980's The Chipmunks as childhood fans of that show apparently do about this new film. Wink
Oh yeah, I sort of know what you mean, Drew, the 60s version....I've only seen the Chipmunks Christmas special with them, (limited animation freaked me out the first time, j/k, )I didn't even know there were other eps however.
I thought it was only records, particularly that "Christmas don't be late" song that still plays on the radio today.
Actually, in a way there were really "three" incarnations of the Chipmunks, as the 80s show was retooled in like '89 or '90 I think; like I said earlier, their design became cleaner looking, voices a little more natural sounding, stories more with "morals." Also, there were these little spin-off sections in which live-action movies were "parodied"--Batman=Batmunk, and so forth.
Also, remember the very brief Simpsons parody of the Chipmunks: "Melvin and the Squirrels" vinyl album that Comic Book Guy sells at a flea market? "MEL-VIN!!!!"
Well, maybe I'll give it a chance, just to see what it's like.
There's a talented group of artists working on this film at Rhythm & Hues. They have no control over the script, or the music, or the photography .. but if nothing else, their Chipmunk characters should be fun to watch.
I thought Garfield would be a travesty, but what I saw of it on HBO wasn't half bad.
