I am searching everywhere for that "Smurf's and the Magic Flute" DVD, and it was the first movie I saw in the cinema for years ago.

It came out a few weeks ago, but it does seem to be rare. I'm sure you'll find it soon. :)

Smurfs seems to have been dropped. :(

Morningstar Entertainment either didn't have the rights, or they were questioned, meaning that the release has been indefinitely pushed back. I don't know if early stock got out and about, but officially, October 7 came and the company had deleted it from its catalog.

So...officially it's not out there, and even eBay doesn't seem to have any stock that got out early. We still wait...

Oh right, I remember reading another board expressing their dismay. Amazon says this: "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer".

Rats, I was kind of looking forward to seeing that one. I'm not a big Smurfs fan, but I'd always heard about Magic Flute and I was curious. Oh well, put it in the MIA column with Rover Dangerfield and the rest.

FWIW, The Smurfs and the Magic Flute is available on DVD in France; but with a french-language track, only (no english dialogue) .. and requiring a Region-2-capable player, of course.

There's also a new Lucky Luke feature that I saw while I was out there, but again, only with the French audio, unlike Asterix And The Vikings, which came loaded with the English dub.

New Rumor Mill From The Digital Bits:

"11/3/08

We've gotten another update from our studio and industry sources on great titles that are in the planning or production stages (or both) for release on Blu-ray Disc in 2009. You can reasonably expect to see most of the Star Trek feature films on the format, as well as Chinatown, Deep Impact, The Ten Commandments, Sunset Boulevard, Apocalypse Now, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Saturday Night Fever, Flashdance and The Elephant Man. According to our sources, there's also an outside chance that you MIGHT see Titanic on Blu-ray before the end of 2009. Keep your fingers crossed.

I've also learned, directly from Paramount while visiting the studio with our friends at The Home Theater Forum last week, that the studios is FINALLY working on new HD transfers of Wings (1927) and The African Queen, hopefully for release in 2009 on both DVD and Blu-ray.

As always, keep in mind that these titles ARE unofficial and are subject to change until they're actually officially announced by the studios in press releases and retail solicitations.

Stay tuned..."

Very good list of films!

Oddly, though, The African Queen has NEVER gotten an R1 DVD release even though it's been shown numerous times on cable TV through the life of DVD.

My guess is that the film needs some restoration.

It's also about time for both Warner Bros. and Universal to start releasing their Hitchcock films on Blu-Ray next year!

Aside from the Trek films, I'm looking forward to Apocalypse Now, which I've resisted buying until now, anticipating a great Blu-ray release.

Y'know, we were just talking about Titanic in hi-def last night. Maybe tonight I'll start talking about a decent Superman film and see if that's announced soon...? ;)

Frank and Ollie

Post by Neal » February 4th, 2009, 9:05 pm

I hope this hasn't been discussed before, I couldn't find a topic.

I'm wondering what you all think of the documentary "Frank and Ollie"? Is it interesting and worth the watch? Does it focus more on these two men or on their work at Disney?
