Everyone's free to give their opinions. We don't all have to agree. And at least he gave his reasons for his opinion.

What James said. If everyone agreed on everything, the world would be a boring place. On topic, I was excited before, but now my excitement has, like, quadrupled. It's so great to see Pixar doing sci-fi and adding to the roster of great animated sci-fi films (Starchaser, Titan A.E., Atlantis, etc).

Pixar's Wall-E

Post by Dusterian » March 16th, 2008, 9:44 am

A big THANK YOU to James and eddievalient. Once again I feel great here. A poster on Youtube confirmed the one robot seems to be characterized as a girl. Oh, Pixar. You can make political statements about the environment and confromity and consumerism...but you have to conform with love?

Yes, this film makes statements on conformity and consumerism

Look at what can be found on the web site for Buy N Large, the makers of the Wall-E robots:
http://www.buynlarge.com/NewsCenter.html?storyId=31 if it doesn't take you directly, click on Education and the story about BnL Business School.
Long an urban business school legend, the feral Communists have been said to be hiding deep within the vacant areas of the school, a claim that BnL Business City denies.
and a girl claims to have seen students wearing drab clothing that did this:
"They sat me down and talked about the violence inherent in the Capitalist system and the tyranny of property"
and from an advertisement:
http://www.buynlarge.com/image_viewer.h ... pagev1.jpg
Failure to use Xanadou during shopping specific excursions may result in a desire to wear drab clothing, redistribute wealth and property and attend socialist summer camps.
I do hope that when the movie comes out, I will find more to like. I mean, I like the stuff that I just posted from Buy N Large, mcuh more interesting than the robots. The trailer just didn't show enough to get me excited.

Does anyone think that the part where the white space ship leaves...Earth, I guess, something greenish yellow, and it goes through the satellites and orbital garbage...looks really fake and cheap, which is weird for Pixar which made such beautiful, realistic stuff before? I've seen it in more than one trailer and everytime...yech.

Thought it looked fine too..Totally implausible, but fine anyway.

Those bits you posted from Buy N Large are very interesting, Dusterian.

They look fine to me. *shrugs*

Yesterday I saw another version of the trailer and the last part had humans that talked. I though that there wasn't supposed to be dialog? Did they change that?

From the pic Dusterian posted, I agree that it looks rather cheap - only on the screen grab. In motion, I think it looks cool.

The preview is attached to Horton, right?

Pixar's Wall-E

Post by Dusterian » March 16th, 2008, 7:32 pm

Yay, one person half-agreed with me, my trusty friend Daniel! But it always bothers me, maybe it won't on the big screen?

Thank you, also, Meg, for noticing what I said about Buy N Large. I'm really hoping for lots on that in the movie!

Foxtale, I heard from early on that the film would not be completely silent. Even the Triplets of Belleville had some speech.

Personally, I think I'll wait and hear from the actual creators of the film regarding the characterization of Eve as a "female." Maybe Pixar is trying to do something different than the male-bonding stories that they, and feature animation in general, have been doing in the past. There's Buzz and Woody, Mike and Sulley, Shrek and Donkey, Remy and Linguini, the Ice Age trio, Marlin and Nemo, Wilbur and Lewis.... I know there are female "love interests" in these films and others, but they seem to play second fiddle to the male relationships.

Anyway, I liked the trailer, though when the guy says "Get that robot," the line delivery sounded a little awkward. And I don't know if the music in the last half of the trailer is original, but it certainly sounds like Thomas Newman putting his own spin on "action" music. Can't wait for the soundtrack (and the movie, in case I haven't made that clear--I know I tend to ramble when writing....)

The preview I saw was attached to Horton. I didn't think it would be completely silent, I just thought that instead of words that we could decipher the humans would just kind of say incoherent things that to us might sound like phrases based on the situation.

It doesn't matter to me that much, like most people I can't wait to see this movie.

I agree! We need more strong females roles in animated movies, and I;m not just talking about as princeses or love interests. Out of all the CG films that have come out in the past few years, I've only seen one with a female lead!

It sounded weak to me as well. Not a strong point in the trailer.

Yeah, there's not a single CGI movies with a girl as the hero, only the Disney Princess films and Alice In Wonderland has a girl has the girl as the hero.
Maybe Mrs. Incredible or Dory but i"m not sure they're.[/quote]
