I still place Spider-Man 2 among the top tier superhero films, though that list has gotten crowded over the past few years.

In terms of super-movies, Spidey 2 is probably second only to Superman for me. It is the Empire Strikes Back of super-movies.

What, the frustrating, aimless and depressing one that didn't feel as instinctive as the classic game-changing first one, namely because it turned the hero into an impulsive/selfish jerk?

That's not really how I remember Spider-Man 2. Or Empire Strikes Back, either.

I am off the reservation on this one, because I think those Raimi Spiderman films are so cringy. I have to mute the narration during them whenever I watch them. Can't stand Aunt May's little speeches. And the Parker/Watson/Osbourne dynamic feels like a bad soap opera. They do do a few things right especially with him figuring out his powers. I love Danny Elfman's music. And J. K. Simmons is one of the best casting choices ever in a superhero movie, right along side RDJ. But, man what bad movies! Sorry!

First you pick Trek over Wars, and now this?

God, it’s just like we just don’t even know you anymore.

Spider-Man comics are totally soap operas. I thought that was one thing the films got right.

Absolutely. Spider-Man is as much about Pete growing up and dealing with stuff as it is about webslinging and crawling. The Raimis largely got that right, which is why the third film was a disappointment (though I don’t find it as bad as many). The new MCUs are working this angle well, but they’re just so tied to the rest of that universe, even more so, it seems at times, than the other "standalone" films, if you want to be generous and call them that.

Yes...the whole “universe” aspect of the MCU is kind of what puts me off of it. When the post-Raimi Spider-Man reboot was first released, I honestly wasn’t all that interested. :? But maybe two or three years later I thought of giving the reboot movies a chance...only to find out that in order to “catch-up” with everything that happened I ALSO had to watch a ton of non Spidey films in order to have something of a grasp of what was going on. :?

(I realize the X-Men films threw continuity to the winds, but at least they were only tied to OTHER X-Men films, and to some extent you actually could enjoy them as stand—alone films.)
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

Title for the next Spidey movie:

Kind of the same sentiment as "Far From Home" but amplified. Not too bad.

Shame "No Place Like Home" was rejected. Would've loved an Oz Spider-Man story. ;)

Spider-Man: Cry, Cry, Cry All The Way Home.

Which, if you get *that* reference, might suggest a whole new name...

Today marks the ten year anniversary since the intended release of the unmade Sam Raimi helmed Spider-Man 4. What could've been indeed...
