I haven't read James's review yet but I really can't see Penguins playing with legs. The family Thanksgiving dollar has been spent on Big Hero 6, and Night At The Museum has been tracking surprisingly well, perhaps a little or a lot because it will mark Robin Williams' final performance in a major picture, so it looks like families are waiting it out for that as their next big outing for a Christmas treat.

I see Penguins struggling to break $100m domestic and even the same internationally, though it could go to 150 since the show plays on some pay-only channels in Europe. However the fact remains that the film, far as I can tell, doesn't offer up anything new that hasn't been playing out on TV for the past couple of years or more.


Edit: just read James's review and...yeah...doesn't sound like much more than we know (and in James's case, love) from before. A good joke is a good joke, but repeat it and repeat it and stretch it thin, and you're going to get an audience reaction like the one to Penguins. James obviously loves the characters and could probably sit and watch them for hours. I love Scrat and would love a feature centered around him...but that's not to say it's a good idea...!

It's definitely more of the same. In a similar way that Roadrunner and Wile E Coyote, and Tom and Jerry, and other cartoons like that were always the same. If you love the characters and the concept it's a fun film. But note that I did give it a five out of ten which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of its overall quality.
