.......
Yeah, they are a bit creepy....
Well, I know it seems like the film might not be so great, but you never know. It could surprise you.
( Believe it or not) I had doubts about them making Shrek 2 work, and whatta ya know? It made me laugh and touched me emotionally.
I admit I have not seen the film yet, but I really think a lot of the concerns everyone has--them repeating the same jokes again and again--were addressed, and hopefully worked on as the film was being developed.
Also, just FYI: I know I've seen reviews of Shrek 3 around the net (IMDB users) who said they liked it a lot...just ordinary moviegoers who were at advance screenings and had a good time. I'm sure if you go there, or Yahoo! you could probably find some.
I know I can't defend this film since I haven't seen it--but there were negative reviews of Over the Hedge and Shrek 2 before they came out (same complaints too--DreamWorks only knows pop-culture references, DreamWorks repeats themselves, etc...on AICN too I think.)
So--I'd take it in stride...but like I said earlier, I haven't seen Shrek 3.
But I trust DreamWorks and I know they didn't just throw it together--when it was announced in 2004, they were already working on the story.

You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

You're right about the review from AICN Vi, although the reviewer did say he really enjoyed the first 2.
But you have to admit that the trailers so far haven't been that great.
They didn't even make me chuckle once, that's not a good sign.
The 2nd Shrek is one of my favourite animated movies:
the score, the visuals, the story, the new characters, the emotional involvement, that one did everything right for me.

Sure, he says that. It might be true--I'm not saying he's lying. But he could have just been like: "Well, I don't want to sound totally negative, so I'll say I loved the first two."

I agree that the trailers are not so great--totally agree with you there. But then almost all--and i mean ALL--of DreamWorks' trailers are absolutely awful and in no way reflect their films, at least from my experience.
(I've been following their trailers since Shrek 1, heck, even Prince of Egypt and El Dorado--and they ALL turned me off at first glance. Actually that's part of why, during a certain time of my life , I really did not care about DreamWorks at all and thought more or less about them the same way that many AICN reviewers do. (shocking, I know. )
Guess that's changed....

But I'll bet when you saw the Shrek 2 trailers, you were less than enthused? Just a guess. I wasn't wild about them either, but by then I was already a huge DW fan and I knew Shrek 2 was probably better than it seemed.

I actually really liked the Shrek 2 trailers.
Let's go down memory lane,
Teaser: Shorter version of the Shrek 2 opening scene with Charming discovering
Wolf in Fiona's bed. ( this one made me laugh )
Trailers: I can't remember them exactly but I do remember the first shots
of Puss putting a big smile on my face, and some "laugh out louds", for example when that dove hits the wall.
I was expecting a good movie and ended up seeing a great one.
That said Vi, I do know that The Third could turn out be a good movie but there's no harm in preparing for disappointment.
I don't want there to be a bad entry in the Shrek series, it saddens me to see the bad posters, trailers, screening reviews, etc..

On the contrary, I really enjoyed the trailers. And like I've said before, I loved Shrek 2 more than the original. Mainly because of what Jeroen posted, and I really loved Fairy Godmother (even if it was another jab at Disney.)ShyViolet wrote:But I'll bet when you saw the Shrek 2 trailers, you were less than enthused? Shrek The Third does seem to be getting a lot mixed feelings, but I am hoping it won't dissapoint. From some of the previews, it does look cool, but than others not so much. We'll at least get a better idea, when more prestine reviews from real critics start pooring in.

"I need a hero" was my favourite scene in the movie, it came as such a suprise to me!!

Exactly, it was such a strong & emotional scene!!
Blending the song with the score was a stroke of genius as well in my opinion!!
+ update on the "Shrek babies"
People magazine has 5 stills introducing the offspring to the world.
