Re:
Do a search on AICN, and there was a live-action Spy Vs. Spy script in the 80's, and...it was awful.
(Basically reducing it to a buddy-cop action about the two spies teaming up to find an inside traitor, and, like "Get Smart", we're way ahead from the first minute. Also not much of the iconic Wile E. Coyote gags, except for the two slinging insults.)
As for the teasers, Illumination is the ex-BlueSky "Ice Age" director trying to go solo, and clearly thought that the "Self-contained short" strategy would work as well for Gru as it did for "Ice Age", and create as much of a zombie cult before opening as it did for the Holy St. Scrat.
Um....didn't seem to, really. Actually, the audience just kinda seemed darn puzzled.

Re: Despicable Me (Universal)
There was a series of Mountain Dew commercials a few years back which realized Spy vs Spy quite brilliantly (and were, perhaps, more respectful of the single-page source material than a 90-minute feature could be) ..

Wait...are you saying Chris Wedge has left Blue Sky/Fox!?EricJ wrote:Illumination is the ex-BlueSky "Ice Age" director trying to go solo
Droo...yep, I remember those dew ads. I'd just love to see Spy Vs. Spy in a long-form feature, but done s-i-l-e-n-t-l-y on their part. It could be done, and could be very good (even if we know it won't be done right, and won't be very good)!

Well, 24 days left until the film comes out. If I'm going by the first 3 reviews, it's a Surf's Up and Meet the Robinsons type reviews: alright, though not REAAALY brilliant.
I love all things cinema, from silent movies to world cinema to animated cinema to big blockbusters to documentaries and everything in between!

I have seen overview of this film. It is look like so complex and also adjective. I like it. But I wish that It would be so far and also more pretty cool than I have seen.

Incidentally, IHOP is currently having a food promotion for Despicable Me. Tried it out the other day, it's pretty good! What I got from the "Minion Menu" was berry pancakes, cinnamon rolls (with cream cheese icing!) and for a drink, Minionade. (Strawberry lemonade, yum!) Not as great as the treatment Horton Hears a Who received, (just thinking about it makes me drool) but still very tasty.
Definitely recommended, so if you haven't tried it out already, you should!

Re: Despicable Me (Universal)
This topic deserves a 'bump' to the top .. both because the movie is actually quite enjoyable, and because it seems to be doing rather well in its first weekend -- earning nearly double its predicted opening box office (perhaps with some thanks to inflated 3-D ticket prices -- but even so..).
The film managed to showcase its fine french animation talent, while staying relevantly humorous to american audiences .. which is no small feat (I doubt most in the local L.A. audience were even aware this was primarily made in france).
While the story is 'wafer-thin' in spots, there seems to always be a gag (or other interesting business) in very nearly every shot. The characters are fun to look at, even when they aren't doing much .. and the environments/layouts are likewise appealing, while minimal enough not to distract from the characters.
All told, a fantastic first film from Illumination Studios. I'm definitely looking forward to their next one ..

Ah, that's good to hear. It does look cute. I think I may see it sometime this week. ^___^
