I just read the book, and I must say, the trailer is very...... different.
The book touched on some pretty dark themes, though it didn't go too deeply into them (which makes sense, considering it's a children's novel). But this trailer makes the film look like an extremely different and watered down version of the story. I find this rather sad, since they seem to be using the book's popularity to hype this film. The teaser attached to WALL-E actually began with "Based on Kate DiCamillo's critically acclaimed, best-selling, Newberry award winning book."
Yeah, and I don't really buy into Matthew Broderick as Despereaux's voice either.

I saw the trailer, and it looks interesting, although I really thought Despereaux should have sounded more like a kid, since that's how I envisioned it when I read the book. And the princess just looks weird. But the voice cast looks very good.

According to Wikipedia, the book came out in 2003.Foxtale wrote:I never heard of the story before which is weird because I know a lot of children's books. How old is the story?

I saw that hd trailer that talked about the thing with the soup and this movie looks like it would be interesting to watch and visually pleasing. I agree with you guys about the voice, he does sound a bit too old for Despeaux but seems like something a viewer can get used to if the voice acting is good ^.^
