Ignoring the fact that nothing was given away for Demon Slayer in the US...

Re: Demon Slayer The Movie Hit At Overseas Box Office!
We knew it was only going to get Fathom screenings, in our new half-opened "Go to the theater just to SHOW the jerks!" pandemic culture where theaters have only five movies that run for months, but from the posts here, you'd think it was DC's Aquaman.
(You remember, the "Warner mistreats DC comic book movies in the US, while Star Wars gets all the December box-office!" paranoiacs?)
Even Toshio Suzuki at Studio Ghibli chimed in that Hayao Miyazaki joked "Do I have a rival now? "
No, Hayao, you do NOT--You have a competing hit trending TV-cash-in movie that's one of the only things playing in Japanese theaters either right now, and also boosted by a group of angry theatergoers who want something to be a symbolic headline hit right now, just to get them open again....That don't make it Kiki's freakin' Delivery Service.

Too bad, it was good for a few laughs. (Ie. the fanboy campaign, not the movie) Too bad the Leetie-fangirls had to join in.
See, this was back when both were afraid they would be "crushed" at the box office by the runaway December-competition audience juggernaut of Fantastic Beasts and Bumblebee ( ), as audiences would all rush to the Big-Studio Establishment marketing of Mary Poppins and Spiderman and not discover the true underappreciated classics...Oh, and then the zombie-like hordes of MoviePass fans joined in, to liven things up.
(Still, at least both were saying "You have to see these movies in 3-D, for the true experience!", and championed the survival of Blu3D. There are still a few faithful out there.)

What on earth is a "Leetie-fangirl"?
I even Googled it, and zero results.

Almost all of this is the exact opposite.EricJ wrote: ↑May 22nd, 2021, 4:00 pmSee, this was back when both were afraid they would be "crushed" at the box office by the runaway December-competition audience juggernaut of Fantastic Beasts and Bumblebee ( ), as audiences would all rush to the Big-Studio Establishment marketing of Mary Poppins and Spiderman and not discover the true underappreciated classics...Oh, and then the zombie-like hordes of MoviePass fans joined in, to liven things up.

Not to mention Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald opened up in November.
But yeah, what a erroneous nonsensical rant. Given Covid restrictions (ie. limited seating) the fact that some theaters remain closed, the whole film leaking a few weeks back on PS4 and having a very small marketing campaign, what it has accomplished thus far is nothing short of impressive. Way to derail yet another thread...

No, no, I was trying to stay on TOPIC about how ridiculous Internet-warrior campaigns to try and symbolic-issue boost movies that everyone pretty much agreed were only going to have a limited audience from the beginning, and would be lucky enough to get that in the US, looked from historical example.
I could dig up old stories about the Passionistas in the 00's, but that was seventeen years ago...
Or how about when the Blu vs. HDDVD battle turned into an all-out Internet fan-posting war over whether Casino Royale or the Peter Jackson King Kong sold more discs?

Ahh, but which version of Casino Royale...?
(And, no, I don’t mean the Woody/Sellers one!)

Lemme get this straight - because Demon Slayer is doing so good in the BO it must because angry fans are seeing it to boost its numbers so it can be in the headlines?! Ooookay.

The logic I tells ya! I mean, yes, it's very fortunate to be one of the few movies playing but luck only goes so far. Maybe it's actually a *good* film!? From what I hear it is. Just because one is not a fan doesn't mean you should shout in the corner like a smug little kid and throw out wild conspiracy theories and comparisons that don't fit. Doesn't look good.

To get back on topic (for real this time!), I want to say that gaastra’s posts here have been extremely welcome. It’s very apparent he’s passionate and enthusiastic about this. Even speaking as a non-fan, Demon Slayer’s box office story is one I love hearing about.

I posted similar a couple of pages back, and although I’ll never likely see it, I love that same commitment and passion, being pleased that gaastra is thrilled, and knowing that when I check in there’ll inevitably be a new Demon Slayer update!

Re: Demon Slayer The Movie Hit At Overseas Box Office!
Demon slayer is the highest watched animated show on netflix. People like it. People were rooting for it as they liked the show and anime films doing great in america is great news. (but not if the anime film is not good.) People like the film.
It's near $500m ww and just came in second place in france so people like it.
In america it's expected to end it's run near $50m!
As for japan has no movies they have detective conan (HUGE in japan crushed both avengers iw and endgame like a bug there! New movie has made $56m so far.), evo, roman kenshin, raya and the last dragon, nomadland and many others.
Here is japan top box office films. They have films out.

People are not cheering it on just for it's a anime film. They just like the film.
