Re: Demon Slayer The Movie Hit At Overseas Box Office!
And mortal kombat crawls over first place to win. Ironic thing is it is almost the same amount the first 90s mortal kombat movie made! History repeats.
Still a big win for anime fans ds doing so well (and did get first place friday and saturday so out of three days it was first for two of them!) but if mk had came out last week mk would have made more and demon slayer would have been first so wbs move did have a price on both films!
With that said it was fun to watch these films fight it out and hollywood has to be happy as both films made $40m combined this weekend. Don't be shocked if we get more of both in the future.

Re: Demon Slayer The Movie Hit At Overseas Box Office!
Mortal Kombat is silly, dumb fun, and should be taken as such. Those anticipating a "darker and more serious" MK might be disappointed, as the much-hyped ultra-violent opening scene feels like it comes from a COMPLETELY different film, and is almost misleading in terms of telling the audience what they're about to get into. The bulk of the movie after the prologue is exactly what you'd expect from this sort of thing, for better or for worse.
It's also one giant sequel-baiter, as there's actually no tournament in this installment despite characters talking all the time about how it's rapidly approaching. Also, much like Godzilla Vs. Kong, this feels like some studio-trimming took place in order to keep the runtime under two hours. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but MK has a lot of characters and world-building it's trying to juggle around at once, and as such, rarely has much time to establish them.
It's still an enjoyable outing (well, not an "outing" for me as I watched it in front of my laptop). The action can be quite strong, but the downside is that many of the villains--who are supposed to be powerful enough to be on the brink of taking of the world--are defeated ridiculously easily (sadly, this includes one of the most popular bosses from the games). Which is to say a bad guy can be introduced and then killed immediately afterwards. The movie also makes no secret over how non-permeant death is in its universe, meaning that anyone who is killed off in this one will almost certainly be back for any sequels that are made...assuming they actually happen.
It is a shame that the movie doesn't "flesh out" its heroes more so that audiences who are non-nerds will be eager to join them for more adventures. As things are now, while it's still an exciting and lively film and I'm sure I'll watch it again when it comes out on disc, the 1995 movie remains the more satisfying romp for both video game fans and casual action movie lovers.

Adding a degree of fascination to the sophomore frame of these two films will be the fact that Demon Slayer‘s location count is climbing. The film screened at over 1,600 domestic cinemas last weekend and is currently confirmed in no less than 1,833 theaters starting this Friday, according to The Boxoffice Company’s Showtimes Dashboard. That figure could approach 2,000 or more as theaters continue booking.

People are reporting demon slayer beat mk for the weekday screenings this week. Some say it made 2M more than MK. This is not confirmed yet so keep that in mind. Also it's this weekend that will count.

Speaking of Mexico cinemas, Cinépolis gave away commemorative tickets:

So sick! And pretty fitting. Wish we got a similar campaign. I still treasure the Pokémon cards I got.

Demon slayer up to $39m in america!
https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmende ... 99bef3a3f9In other Friday box office news, Demon Slayer earned another $850,000 (-54%) on its third Friday for a likely $2.94 million (-54%) weekend and $39.505 million 17-day domestic cume. It’s already the biggest-grossing worldwide release of 2020 (it opened in Japan last October) and will pass Pan’s Labyrnth ($37.6 million in 2006) as the sixth-biggest grossing (sans inflation) foreign-language film ever in North America. It remains by far the biggest-grossing movie ever outside of films from North America or China.

I remember reading up on that and how scalpers were going crazy for them and selling them for tons. Funny enough, it was around the same time that was happening over here with the Pokémon promotion. Scalpers ruin everything... just now I read that Target will no longer be selling cards in store because of fights. I feel sorry for the kids.
