Re:
Originally, the "presold trilogy" was too expensive for studios, but the idea going in was that Spielberg would do the first, Jackson would do the second, and....at the time, everyone wanted to work with Guillermo del Toro.Ben wrote:They designed it as a trilogy, so good to hear it's going ahead (even if the international figures never put any doubt on it).

I don't think "everyone" did. Honestly, where do you GET this stuff? Tintin was - and is - designed as a trilogy. The studios didn't buy or not buy into a "presold" deal of sny kind. The intention was to make three. The success of the first means they will go ahead.
And the ending makes it VERY clear where the next film is headed. What is not clear is how Jackson is going to top Spielberg!

Re: Tintin
Spielberg's already working on the script:

According to the article there might possibly even be a fourth film.

Re: Tintin
What is with the sudden slew of negative reviews? Americans no likey? Or are these people "tintinologists"', or ...Eh... Some may have good points, but now that it is getting closer to the opening, the negative reviews are rolling in...what happened?

Eh,
Who knows why the reviews are going sour...
I'm just indifferent to the TinTin character in all honesty... I never really grew up with that and it just doesn't interest me.
For that matter, I have no interest in seeing the new Muppet film, either.
On the other hand, I have been known to change my mind on things.
I was never what you would call a huge fan of Westerns but now I'm interested in seeing the "Man With No Name" Trilogy directed by Sergio Leone and starring Clint Eastwood. The little I've seen of "The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" has me convinced it's worth my time and money.
As for most new films --- they can go hang.
I can buy quite a few older Blu ray releases now for the price of a new film's ticket, OR, better yet, rent a Red Box DVD (cheaper) OR borrow films for free from the local library.
The whole box office is down this year. It's not a huge percentage but it's still a significant amount of money lost. When Hollywood loses Middle America after years of giving the rest of us "the middle finger" and marketing shlocky sequels, remakes, and generally poorly-scripted budget-bloated movies, I don't know how they'll get our good will back... There's a point at which most of us are saying, "Enough with the abuse!" And you can't say it's happening because of videogames, either.
I know my money -- when I can afford to buy film on disc -- is going towards older properties and anime. I just generally can't stand what comes out of Hollywood nowadays. I can't imagine a greater era of general malaise than what we're experiencing now. You'd probably have to go back to the late 1960s to see an equally crummy period in films.

People should see Tintin, despite the trailer or not! But, if the Hobbit trailer makes you go, atleast watch some of Tintin! Just wanted to add that in there! Hah.
As for the score on RT, as I can respect some opinions, but some of the ones on there are absolute bull. But, that is what you get when most of the ratings are coming from critics that shouldn't really be critics...in my opinion anyway.
I think some are missing the fact that the comics were written waaay before the Indiana Jones films. Kinda urks me. But hey, Tintin is getting more exposure.
I never really listen to the critics anymore. RT just gives me a good idea of what the general public will think of it, but it won't usually reflect my overall experience. Can't wait to watch it tonight!

Re: Tintin
It strikes me that a lot of the criticisms leveled at this film: moves too quickly, too much action, wooden acting, thin plot--were directed at Temple of Doom. And Temple of Doom was amazing! I'm still really excited.
