Keep your fingers crossed that Universal does right by these films.

A LOT of re-issues of films on Blu ray have been just awful.

Really bad BD reviews for Flash Gordon (1980), Patton, and Predator amongst others.

These films have just been DVNR'd to death and the grain's gone.

I just saw a snap photo from the recent Predator BD on The Digital Bits and it looks terrible!

Fox and the other studios are really screwing it up on quite a few of the older film re-issues.

They're not supposed to look like home video. They're supposed to look like film -- with grain!

Okay...we have the FINAL SPECS!

The BD set will be three 50gb discs, with the movie and associated features on them. The DVD set is four DVD-9s, with the three movies and limited extras on the first three platters, and extensive extras on the fourth.

I have no idea what lies within the individual (new) features themselves, but that's whats on the actual discs. The constant referral to "digipak with slip sleeve" probably implies these discs are all housed in one digipak, not that each disc has its own slipcase.

It all looks very, VERY nice!

Thought I'd post this here since it's a pre-existing Back to the Future thread.

From November 5-November 12 in Burbank, California, there will be a Back to the Future 25th Anniversary reunion festival. Cast and crew of the film will be on hand to help out in a whole Back to the Future experience that includes a DeLorean car show, a tour of the 1955 locations, hoverboard lessons, an Enchantment Under the Sea gala, and more. With all proceeds going to Team Fox for Parkinson's research.

Confirmed so far to appear include co-creator Bob Gale, director of photography Dean Cundey, the original Jennifer Parker - Claudia Wells, Principal Strickland - James Tolkan, Marvin Berry himself - Harry Waters Jr., Goldie Wilson - Donald Fullilove, and more.

I wonder how the trilogy would be viewed today if they had kept Eric Stolz. Would it be one of those bad 80s movies that you love to hate or would it have fallen into relative obscurity? It probably would not have been spawned the two sequels.

Maybe someone could build an actual time machine with a DeLorean, go back to the 1980s to the Back to the Future set, convince the producers to keep Stolz, then come back to the present to see the results. Then we'd be stuck with an alternate 2010 timeline.

Watch it, and get back to us as to whether Stoltz ever owned a sense of humor.

...And be glad it wasn't "The Fly II".

We did get "Mask" as his one other 80's shot at leading-teen headlining, and while it was relatively feel-good, did have a little self-importance to it that suggests why he lost the Zemeckis-comedy gig.

Comments have been good and bad, but I'm a sucker for this kind of packaging.

However, I've searched and searched for any news of a US edition to no avail, though it's been mentioned that it may be a store exclusive. Although the UK/Euro set is essentially region-free (A, B and C), I just hate UK packaging and always prefer to buy the US edition.

Anyone know about this, or seen something about this set in the US for Tuesday's release?

I saw that myself, and was giving it consideration if there are no drawbacks to playing it in Region A. (There's a nice-looking Metropolis set in the UK too.) The negative remarks are mostly about the films supposedly not being remastered, but it should be the same transfers that appear in the US set, which was just reviewed at DVD Beaver.

None of those Amazon reviewers have any direct knowlgedge of it, they're only giving their feelings based on what they expect. In short, I'd also like to hear from someone once they actually have seen the UK collector's edition.

My crazy plan was to order the US set anyway, and I'd get the UK one for the packaging (wouldn't do this for every film, but after Superman, BTTFT is up there).

I just didn't want to buy it twice if there was a US tin, though.

What is it with you and tins, Ben?

The only BD/DVD tins I see regularly are for Disney films and usually they're only available at Best Buy (electronics chain store) for pre-order specials or online Disney Movie Club-only specials.

They're still few and far between on most single film releases.

I've got a couple myself... They're usually available only as first print run items on films or sets. I've got RoboCop (the best version available on DVD -- includes BOTH cuts of the film and extras; the BD version is a joke with no extras to speak and only the theatrical cut), Edward Scissorhands (DVD tin), and the full first series of Full Metal Alchemist (all tin collections) and I'm sure some other stuff.

I get more annoyed with the slipcovers on Disney films and how things change over time with their movie sets. They generally offer stripped down single disc editions on BD a while after the combo packs. I kinda prefer the combo packs myself...
