According to Box Office Mojo, the domestic theatrical run of Frozen finally ended yesterday (July 17). It's domestic total came up to $400,738,009, making it the 19th highest grossing film of all-time in North America.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Disney does a quickie 3-D re-release of this sometime the way that Fox briefly put Avatar back in theaters.

Then again, that could just be wishful thinking on my part.

Think the Avatar re-release was just in the wake of the Oscar nominations, for all the folk who were suddenly taking it seriously now!

Frozen's already had its Oscar-validation to make "regular" people watch it--Disney's summer theme-park stunts have kept it in the public eye (and which probably took the place of the usual "Princess coronation" to kick off the marketing, A) because they still think it's a fad, and B) there's still some fan and in-house nitpicking that Elsa is in fact "Queen Elsa" and therefore not technically a Princess).
So if there's any 3D re-releasing to be done, it's already going to be on disk, in tandem with Sleeping Beauty next October. (And about danged time, too.) Whether they're confident enough to think there's enough theater popularity to jam it into theaters over a quiet September promotion ahead of time, and conquer the ghosts of Monsters Inc 3D and Little Mermaid iPad, that remains to be seen, but, y'know, it's already HAD its 3D bigscreen release.

It's already been confirmed that an SE is coming in the fall on Blu-ray...but I could also see a "limited engagement" to promote that or at least an annual winter screening at the El Capitan becoming a bit of a thing...

Not sure. Disney did cancel the 3D-erised releases of the Star Wars movies (thankfully, since the 3D-erised Episode I that was released looked absolutely awful and a complete waste of money).

Actually, the remaining 3-D re-releases were not "cancelled." Just postponed. The problem is that since Disney owns Star Wars now, it's hard to sort out who has distribution rights to the original six films (which as far I as I know Fox still has).

Disney cancelled the original release schedule and stopped on any remaining "3D-erisation" work (as they also did with the games division and the animated Clone Wars series). Whether that means the 3D-erised movies are completely cancelled / postponed-"indefinitely" or postponed-"temporarily" remains to be seen ... "big business" buffoons have a habit of changing their minds simply when they can see extra $$ involved. There are rumours of the movies (or some of them) being re-released as a build-up to the new Episode VII.

Hopefully they remain dead since the "3D-erisation" process simply doesn't work and looks awful (it looks like 2D cardboard cutouts over a blurry background - like bad ViewMaster reels). Even many movies actually filmed in 3D aren't worth the extra ticket price.

Lucasfilm has decided to postpone this fall’s scheduled release of Star Wars Episodes II and III in 3D. Given the recent development that we are moving forward with a new Star Wars trilogy, we will now focus 100 percent of our efforts on Star Wars: Episode VII in order to ensure the best possible experience for our fans. We will post further information about our 3D release plans at a later date.

Now, it may end up never happening. But it still could. Worst case scenario is it doesn't get a release in the states.

That was more than a year ago, when they were immediately dealing with the fallout of Monsters and Mermaid 3D.
Most fans suspect they're going to hold on to it a little longer, to prime the pump for Ep. VII, once that's actually ready to be sold and hyped.

That's just marketing spin. The fact is that all work on the 3D-erisations has stopped and there are no (current) plans to start it up again. What some, probably new, management fool might decide to do in the future to milk more money out of the franchise is a different question.

After the rather dismal public response to Episode I 3D, the only reason the others were still going ahead was because George Lucas wanted them to. The other Prequel movies will look just as horrible, and the Original Trilogy even worse.

Disney has also made a lot of changes since buying out the Lucas empire - cancelling pretty much everything, making all the existing "Expanded Universe" material "non-canon", and restarting the franchise in their own way (new movies, new animated series, new books, new comic books, etc.).

JJ Abrams is already hyping the movie with "leaks" and video clips ... massively over-hyping his rubbish is about the only thing Abrams is actually any "good" at doing.
