Perhaps. I follow what you're saying.

It's bound to be a lonnnnggg book, that's for sure.

I think the "filler" in HBP was there so that it is out of the way for book 7, which can just deal with the action of doing what is necessary instead of explaining why they're doing it.
Dumbledore's death couldn't have happened earlier without also having all the background information that he alone knew also being revealed too soon.

But...it was all so drawn out.

The film of this one is going to be a long haul... :)

Which one, HBP or the final one?

Will Harry Potter die??

I don't think so for a minute, but here's what a new JK interview suggests:

Brandon was thinking that killing off Harry would be the only reasonable way to end the series. I agree, but I'd also hate to see Harry get the axe, err...wand? Heheh.

As far as HP5 (Order of the Phoenix) is concerned...

I honestly think they should only have minimal trouble cutting it down for film. Too much pointless social drama, I thought. Especially the bit where Harry's trying to be a boyfriend but failing miserably.

Things the movie must have to be worth it (to me):

1) Adequate coverage of "everbody thinks Harry's nuts" WITHOUT making him TOO angsty
2) Adequate buildup of the nastiness of Umbridge
3) The Weasley brothers' scene
4) Some good DA scenes
5) If there are any slow-motion shots in the "Sirius and the veil" scene, I will probably laugh. None o' those, please.
Other than that... so long as the director actually reads the book, it should be OK. I don't think it's in too much danger of being like HP3, where they threw in unexplained details that only book-familiar viewers will understand.

I was just about to post those here! I'm gonna go sulk in the corner now!

Just kidding! Here are the higher quality versions I was going to post here in the forums since they aren't really appropriate for the main page. The captions are my own guesses about what scene the pictures depict. Since they might be considered spoilers if you have not read the book I have hidden them.
