Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was indeed #1 highest grossing movie of 1937.
Pinocchio was not the highest grossing movie of 1940, in fact Disney lost money, but it had huge rerelease in 1945 that that made the money back several times over.
The same fate happened to other Disney releases: Fantasia , Cinderella, Bambi , Peter Pan, 101 Dalmatians , The Jungle Book . They didn't top the box office in the year of their release, but their re-releases grossed multiple times the amount of their original run.
