I saw a preview for this at "Hoodwinked". Where the heck did it come from? And it's so darn soon!

The character designs are based on the original TV show from the 1960s!
This was a classic TV show here and in France, and there was even a movie before, created - as was the original show - in stopmotion in 1975.
I have this under its original title The Magic Roundabout on DVD here in a nice 2-disc edition. The film is aimed at kids, but there are several "for the parents" jokes that are not crude, but just fun.
The animation is pretty darn fantatsic too and the voices really work - does anyone know how much has been changed by Harvey and co?

According to this thread, it's based on a British TV show or something.

This is actually the film The Magic Roundabout. Apparently The Weinstein Co has decided to completely redo the voice cast for American audiences. I have no idea why they're promoting it as Butch Hartman's. I assume he had something to do with the new voice cast. But some sites (like Yahoo and MovieWeb) even list him and his people as the director and writers when this film came out and was released oversees well before he came on board!

It's a really well animated little film (though I'll understand if you don't believe me, having gone on about another American picked up Brit-flick, Valiant).
I am astounded that they have totally re-done the voice cast, and the completely re-written screenplay will mean its essentially a new film, though I wonder how they have managed the sync issue since this was animated in France and Britain in the English language, and the sync was obviously done for the original script.
This is not Butch Hartman's movie...this has already been around for over a year and this is just the Weinsteins coming in and making something "better", just like The Cobbler And The Theif!
The advertising is also so generic - anyone else getting fed up with big black bold fonts that stamp the tagline across the top of the poster and line up the star voices like a roll call?
I think practically every CG feature since Monsters Inc has had this approcah, and it just seems soooo boring now.
That said, I'm interested in seeing this new version and will check the trailer out as soon as I can to get a flavor of it.
The words "Chevy Chase" scream the most inetersting to me, since I can't imagine him in any of the original roles in the movie - so that will be something to see and hear!
