Love how they think Stitch will look like that. That’s obviously just a plush toy being used as a stand-in, to be replaced by whatever CG design they go for. It will likely look close to the original Stitch, as they’d be mad to change it too much, but I think they’re just saying it will look the same based on them using a plush toy for reference.

Officially wrapped filming:
Mathieu Leblanc wrote:Lilo and Stitch has officially wrapped filming, the film took 88 days total to film due to various setbacks ranging from arson, an actor getting fired days after being hired, the strike, the casting of Lilo taking much longer than expected to find the perfect actress
Now to wait for a real first look at Stitch...

HR thinks stitch will be dumped on disney plus. That would be really dumb as stitch is HUGE in both china and japan two of the biggest movie markets in the world and disney would be flushing that money down the toilet.

Update on the remake:
TheDisInsider wrote:Back in October 2018, reports surfaced that a live-action remake to Disney’s 2002 animated hit Lilo & Stitch was in the works.

We have learned that production on the live-action/CGI hybrid is set to begin filming this Fall in Hawaii. The studio is also prepping this film as a part of their original films for Disney+.
Surprised it's heading to Disney+ given that Stitch is still uber popular. Kinda bummed...
We've had a bunch of similar "a shame it’s just for streaming" posts since then, but it’s always (since its 2020 revival in production) been a D+ title, however unfortunate that may be.

It's been like the now dead honey i shrunk the kids 4 movie and has bounced back and forth between disney plus and movies from years. Disney could not make its mind up where this movie was going to go.

Not putting it on the big screen just screws disney in japan and china. Stitch is HUGE there to the point both has had new shows aimed at them. Japan has had two more animated stitch movies never released in america. Both have stitch all over the disney parks there and tons of merch. Stitch has had more than one manga series. Japan and china are two of the three biggest movie markets in the world and love this ip. It's like taking the animated mario movie and throwing it on netflix in japan over the movies. All that money gone. I thought bob was smarter than this.

Japan anime lasted three seasons and two movies and specials.

China series.

But it was always designed as a streamer. It doesn’t have a big enough BO star in it to warrant a theatrical release now. Like Star Trek, you need to appeal outside what makes the cute fanbase happy if you want to actually make money. :)

Also Stitch is adorable!

Well, I prefer chicken, turkey or duck over crow, but it’s *really* not that much of a surprise. They’ve obviously seen the first cut, are desperate for theatrical product, and have decided to take the gamble on Stitch looking good enough to be the power behind the box-office in lieu of any big name draws.

And pushing back from later this year to summer '25 gives them longer to make Stitch look betterer…they've definitely softened him up from the original cartoon, with less blue in the coloring, shorter ears and just generally more rounded/even more plush-friendly shaping, but he’s obscenely well animated and feels very natural! Clearly their big bet is on making *him* the star and, as such, it might just work!
