RIP, Andy Griffith -- America's iconic smalltown sheriff

Post by GeorgeC » July 3rd, 2012, 12:16 pm

Confirmed by Ron Howard that Andy Griffith is dead at age 86.

He played Sheriff Taylor on the famous 1960s TV sitcom that bore his name. (This TV series was also the big launching point for Ron Howard's showbiz career.) Later on (1980s to 1990s), Griffith became equally well-known for the Ben Matlock character

Don't know if Griffith did any animation voiceover, but frequent co-star and friend Don Knotts (dec) was the voice of Mr. Limpett in the 1960s and did comedies for Disney in the 1970s with his other film buddy, Tim Conway (Apple Dumpling Gang series).

The sun sets on another icon but we'll always have the video memories...

Andy Griffith dead at 86!

Post by ibrmacf » July 3rd, 2012, 3:03 pm

Yes, our dear, beloved Sheriff Taylor, Ben Matlock, and others: actor Andy Griffith has died at the age of 86! And only 2 months after George Lindsey (Goober from "The Andy Griffith Show") died. This is a loss that many of us, me included, will be extremely saddened by. In terms of animation, he lent his voice to 2007's "Christmas is Here Again" as Santa Claus.

Andy was also the narrator for Frosty's Winter Wonderland.
