Re: The state and future of animation
What exactly killed hand-drawn animation? If CGI is more expensive than traditional animation on average, then why did theatrical traditional animation die out?

If Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron has quite a following, then why didn't Spirit Untamed do well at the box office? It had a high CinemaScore rating and was well-received by fans of the show, Spirit: Riding Free.

It was on the sites countdown app, and there were articles posted. Kinda hard to miss!
The timing didn't help but it also looked liked it was targeted to the very young crowd.

It most likely didn't do that well probably because fans of the original were turned off by the sequel being for little girls.

Also, it’s that old thing of "why go see a movie in (possibly infected) theatres when the same thing is essentially playing on TV?", as the Spirit TV show continues to do.

I'm not a fan of the original, but that sequel looked nothing like the original so I'm not surprised why fans of the original were turned off by it.GeffreyDrogon wrote: ↑October 31st, 2021, 1:55 pmIf Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron has quite a following, then why didn't Spirit Untamed do well at the box office? Re: The state and future of animation
It's hard to believe there actually ARE new video-generation fans of the original, but then, they don't remember the days when 2D DreamWorks movies played theaters.
And although the new Katz-free DreamWorks wants to merchandise their streaming series--which tried to get away from the '02 movie in the first place and reinvent it so little girl audiences would like the brandname--it put them in a darned-if-they-did, darned-if they-didn't spot.
(And I was being sarcastic about wondering if it played theaters, but thanks to the Trolls and Scooby-Doo causing the new gold-rush for family animateds on "Home premiere", it's getting harder and harder to tell...We got the Paw Patrol movie in theaters, right?)

Yes, and I cite the examples I used above.

Geff, I had to delete your post. Please refrain from starting conversation topics like that in the future. Thank you.
