Another point is that retail never really WAS the main outlet for DVD/Blu buyers:
DVD, Blu and Blu3D were all so impossible to find in big-box stores--and insanely MSRP overpriced when they were--that core early-adopters gravitated to Amazon and private company-website sales like Criterion, while online social media stoked the cult loyalty.
Retail hoped to get mainstream buyers on the mainstream-title sellers, but apart from the big week-one hit or Disney title, that was the exact same undiscerning audience that Warner tried to court with digital and streaming.
That audience got the movies they deserved, while collectors preserved the prime source.
Disney ends physical media in Australia & Asia!
