Darn!

I bought this when it first came out. If I had known they would be offering it for free, I could have waited ten years and saved my money.

This is one of my favorite cd box sets. Not quite sure the website posting this is doing so legally though.

It's Alan Menken website, he's offering each month his works that went out of print, a nice attention to the fans who couldn't get their hands on such amazing works!
I got King David's recording through the site.

It's a nice enough site, though if it was officially his there would be more info on his recent stuff (the biog ends at Little Shop in 1982!) and many, many links to buy what is available from Amazon or somesuch.

The biggest givaway is right on the front page: "The unofficial website The Whole New World of Alan Menken (Since February 17, 2000)".

In fact, Menken doesn't even seem to have an official site! So...these are illegal downloads. And as such, I'm removing the link due to promoting unauthorized content.

Thanks for understanding. :)

the site is unofficial ok but it is up to date (see News section)
as for the downloads, he only put the Out-of-prints stuff, it'not like he puts the soundtracks of Little Mermaid or Aladdin. But those who were lucky enough to get them don't care much about sharing....

He did put the soundtracks of Little Mermaid AND Aladdin up! Not only does The Music Behind the Magic have cut songs and demo versions of those shows, it also has the final versions as well.

And we're not trying to be stingy just because we bought this when it first came out and others didn't. We could get in legal trouble for promoting illegal downloadable music. The RIAA here in the US has not been shy about suing people! And if you didn't notice this is not a profit-making website - we pay for it out of our own pockets. Getting sued would definitely put Animated News in the "not worth it" column!

No he didn't, the files of the set he put online does not contain the final versions of the songs, only the work in progress versions!

So he knew that part would definitely be considered illegal. Unfortunately for him, out-of-print or in-print it is still under copyright and therefore illegal to redistribute in this way.

And more importantly, as I said, it's not worth the hassle for us to be caught up in any way with illegal music downloading. This website takes enough of our free time without having to go and get lawyers if someone were to complain!

BTW - nothing against you here! We're glad you wanted to share something you thought was really cool with us. And that set is really cool! Check out eBay or Amazon for a used copy!

In case anyone is interested, here are links to Amazon and eBay, where you can buy used editions of the set:

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dl ... category0=

I bought the set a couple of years ago. One of the smartest purchases I've ever made. :)
