Re: 2022 Oscar Nominees
Tom cruise snubbed for best actor and looks like avatar knocked Pinocchio out of best picture nod.
Anime treated like trash again but even with that this is a great animated film list this year.
But--rescue rangers rejected for too much live action but marcel the shell with just as much live action gets a nod?
Something doesn't add up.

Rescue Rangers never had theatrical screenings so it's not eligible to anything.

For the first time in forever 88 years, all the Best Actor nominees are first timers.

Re: 2022 Oscar Nominees
I'm actually impressed with the nominations, not because of who was actually nominated but there were some genuine surprise nominations - especially in acting - for people who weren't getting recognised in the more mainstream awards (but had some love from Critics awards). Not that those nominations really change the likely eventual winner, but it does stop the Oscars from looking like a rehash of every other award show that is broadcasted.

I gasped when I saw Pinocchio nominated... but then I realized it was Guillermo's, not Bob's!

Released in LA and new york theatres to ironic count for oscars same as luca and turning red.
Old trick studios have done for decades. Yes, it counts as a theatre film.

Actually, it wasn't on the list of eligible films.

Re: 2022 Oscar Nominees
I doubt it met the quotient of being 75% animated. Roger Rabbit wouldn't get nominated for best animated film if it was released today. They specifically bought in rules to ensure movies like Avatar (which rely on mocap more than an animator 'drawing') wouldn't appear in the animated category. and the 75% rules was one of them.

Re: 2022 Oscar Nominees
Thing is, do we still need the ten-nomination rule when there are barely ten films released in the entire YEAR?

Stop that. It’s silly.
