In 1961, a statue of Bullwinkle J. Moose and Rocket J. Squirrel was erected on the Sunset Strip, near Hollywood. It stood next to the
Jay Ward Productions studio, which would later become
The Dudley Do-Right Emporium .. a souvenir shop which sold 'Jay Ward-themed' collectibles (mostly kitschy ceramic figurines and t-shirts) .. which -- sadly -- closed its doors for good, in 2004. The statue (which had been in a sad state of disrepair, for many years .. with faded paint and several cracks/holes/chips) was unceremoniously removed from Sunset Boulevard in 2013.
But the statue was lovingly restored, and has
just been re-erected in its original location .. whereupon, it was immediately covered with a tarp -- for a planned 'unveiling' event, later this month (but you can see what it now looks like, in the linked article).
Welcome back, Bullwinkle..!
