CBS Sunday Morning's tribute:
Hallmark Channel will be airing The Lost Valentine tonight in remembrance. Beautiful movie, one of Betty's greatest emotional performances. I'll be watching!

Betty's very last word was Allan, her late husband. So sweet.

And now Sidney Poitier. He lived to a ripe age, and had a wonderful career, but I'm sad to see him go. I love so many of his films. Such dignity and grace.

Sir Sidney!
Long-time fan, right from when he impacted us in To Sir, With Love that we ran in school once we had finished the book in class.
Almost every film he was involved in was a good —sometimes and often important — one, and although "trashy", I always even found his 80s action thriller Deadly Pursuit (released in the US as Shoot To Kill) an exciting watch. It was one in the deal Kino had with Touchstone that I was hoping would get to Blu-ray, but no luck so far. Maybe his passing will remind them they still have this to release…?
To Sidney, with love… RIP.

In honor of Sidney, my wife and I watched To Sir, With Love today. Somehow, I had never seen it, but my wife came prepared with the tissues, as it was a film dear to her already. What a lovely film. I did indeed tear up several times during the movie.
I recall hearing of a made-for-TV sequel, and was somewhat astonished tonight to see who it was directed by: the also just-departed and well-loved Peter Bogdanovich!!

You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

Re: Animated Views Celebrity Obituary Thread
That’s nice that you watched the original, and glad you enjoyed it.
Had totally put aside the fact that Bogdanovich had done the "sequel", which sadly just isn’t very good. The made for TV budget is all to obvious and the film says nothing, really, with Thackeray heading back home to take on unruly kids in an inner-city American school, so it all comes off a little pale and loses all the nuance and various themes of race, class and period of the 60s set original, which was the point of it. Poitier is decent, of course, but the film is lacking. I have an off-air that I keep in my TS,WL Blu-ray. Next time I send you a pack I’ll include a dub if you remind me.
