Also, let's not forget about Dreamgirls. Early word is that the film may grab several Oscar nominations, including actng nods for Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson.
In the meantime, I imagine that a "Best Documentary" nomination will go toward An Inconvenient Truth. I think that film also has a change of receiving a "Best Original Song" nomination, for Melissa Etheridge's "I Need to Wake Up."

I think that both songs from "Cars" ("Our Town" and "Real Gone") have a chance at a nom as well.
And I just saw "The Departed" yesterday, and let me tell you guys, this film could get LOTS of nominations. And maybe even a win in the Director's category for you-know-who.

United 93 has to be in the main running. Just has to.
Children Of Man was, um... "interesting". Not very involving though.
Yep, Affleck and McKellen could be in with supporting nods.
The Departed? Me thinks this and United 93 will be up against each other. Perhaps one will get Picture (United) and one could get director (Departed)?
But...it's a remake at heart, and that could affect it. Plus the reviews have been split. "Best since GoodFellas" for some, "another in the long barren wilderness after Casino" for others.
Whatever, it WILL be an interesting year, for sure!

I also think that "The Departed" could get various nominations for the acting (all of the performances in this movie were GREAT, but Jack and Leo were the standouts). And I think it may have editing in the bag, since one review after another that I've read has mentioned it.
Ben, you've seen "Children of Men"?
EDIT: Boxofficeprophets.com has some interesting Oscar coverage up:

Boxofficeprophets has some interesting Oscar coverage, including the award for Best Animated Feature:

I'm not sure why they rank "A Scanner Darkly" above "Open Season". I think that OS could a nom simply because the animation was so great.

VERY true.
Also, just curious, (not trying to stir up controversy) does anyone think that Mel Gibson's "Apocolypto" could stand a chance of an Oscar nom for something, even if it's not Picture or Director? Or could it get a Best Pic nom?
I'm not sure, with all the negative press he has gotten. But his film could score in maybe photography, score, costume, something like that. Just curious about the issue since it's been in the media.
Also, what about Chris Nolan or Chris Bale for the Prestige?
Wow, Leo Dicaprio's certainly becoming a bona fide Hollywood star. He's worked with Cameron, Spielberg, Scorcase, (twice at least, although I could be wrong) and now Jack Nicholson. And to think the guy started out on Growing Pains.Leo [was] the standout).
Even though I actually liked Growing Pains-- And anyway, I think his first REAL TV role was in the spin-off TV show of Ron Howard's Parentood, which I'm sure no one remembers. (the show I mean. The film is one of my all-time favorites.)
EDIT: Oops, forgot Danny Boyle, (director of Trainspotting and 28 Days Later), in "The Beach".
Oh and Baz Luhrmann of course, in Romeo and Juliet. (who also directed Moulin Rouge)
Wow, that's quite a resume!
You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

I'm watching this next week at a screening! I'll let everyone know how it is."A Scanner Darkly"
Wasn't this the seed of the story for the Circle 7 Toy Story 3? I wonder: is JL and company going to keep that story? I think it would be REALLY neat to go to Japan and meet Japanese toys!Although it's set in the US and Buzz is presumably an American toy, he was probably assembled in Taiwan and toys are international.

And I think its been stated that they scrapped most, if not all of what Circle 7 started.
But I may be wrong , but it would be really neat if it was kept.

Three times actually, Vi. Marty directed Leo in "Gangs of New York", "The Aviator" and "The Departed".Wow, Leo Dicaprio's certainly becoming a bona fide Hollywood star. He's worked with Cameron, Spielberg, Scorcase, (twice at least, although I could be wrong)
No. Don't see it happening. Even though the film got good reviews, I don't see it making it very far when it comes to Oscars. Far more likely: "The Illusionist", since it came first. Also, what about Chris Nolan or Chris Bale for the Prestige?
