I know, me to! But yeah, it was wrongly advertised. And I guess, it does depend on taste. Because one of my friends loooves it, while another hates it, go figure!

I do like it, but I hate what Ben pointed out. It just wasn't neeed. :x

(but you guys should be checking Animated Views too!!):

Believe me, I do Ben! :)

About the Oscars....I WISH so bad we'd seen Roger Allers up on that stage....his film was a masterwork....I totally don't think the other one, can't remember the name, deserved to win at all...it looked like warmed-over Madeline/Babar, like it belonged on Nick Jr. or something.....(no offense to those who liked it, maybe it was good for all I know....)

I really think it's true that Disney--WDFA proper--has been discriminated against for a long time due to their "big corporate behemoth going-down-the-drain unless they're releasing Pixar" reputation in the industry, particularly in the Academy..

Seriously. That Matchgirl short was brilliant...not good, brilliant.

And for crying out loud, Roger Allers not win?? In case those Academy people forgot (and they probably did) this guy was one-half the directing team of, um, The Lion King!! (and if ANY film ever deserved Best Animated Feature, it was that one. :()

The visual look of Matchgirl alone compared to the scribbled crayon look of the Dutch short (again, no offense to those who liked it) coupled with the astonishing storytelling and manipulation of the classical score should have made it a shoe-in. :(

WDFA is a treasure all its own, constantly dissed by those who don't know any better. :(

Fie on them!!!

BTW, in that Fantasia 2000 continued or whatever it's going to be, how would you guys feel about adding Matchgirl to it? :)

Coupled with that amazing Eric Goldberg (ahhhh.....another WDFA master) Rhapsody in Blue piece, it would be pure awesomeness. :)

You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

If they would add matchgirl, they should add "one by one" as well
It's only fair.

and I looooooved the Rhapsody in Blue segment :D ,
I'm a huge Goldberg, Al hirschfield, Gershwin and Jazz fan so that one was like heaven to me

Destino, Matchgirl, One By One and Lorenzo were ALL intended to make up a third Fantasia. When the project fell through, it made more sense to complete the active sequences as stand-alone short films.

I did like it, but not for the animation. Very simplistic. And yet the story was quirky and funny and full of culture (as well as being original), so I don't think it didn't deserve to win. Though I am a little disappointed too that Matchgirl didn't win because it was absolutely beautiful. But I'm sure the Academy loved the artsiness of The Danish Poet, so that's why it got the nod. If it were based on animation quality alone though... I'd think Matchgirl was robbed, too.

Yeah Dan, it bites that it fell through.

Hopefully in the future we'll see all these shorts on a Fantasia continued DVD.

BTW is Lorenzo and Destino available on itunes as well? :?:

There's something in the works that collects Disney's recent shorts.
