It was definitely the beginning of an era. Before this movie, my brother forced me to watch Thor since I'd be introduced to a couple characters in The Avengers. Now I count the days until any MCU film is released.

You can't really go wrong with anything pre Justice League War. The Dark Knight Returns parts 1@2, and Batman and Superman Apocalypse are my personal favorites

X-Men Apocalypse:
if those characters are considered heroes in the comics or have been shown to be in previous X-Men movies; they're not treated as such until right until the final showdown (in the case of Storm and Magneto).

I actually enjoy Tales from Earthsea. I think it's main obstacle is that it has such long source material that breaking it down is going to difficult for standard feature film length.
