...The problem today is not solely Eisner or Katzenberg. It's that we don't have people willing to take risks, but more importantly that nobody of the caliber of Walt Disney exists in the current Hollywood corporate culture... I believe that John Lasseter is the "new Walt Disney". I don't know if h...

...If you think about it SharkTale was pretty risky too--spoofing mob comedies like that. It could have bombed but it didn't... Come on now let's be fair here! SharkTale did good at the domestic box office (though shockingly The Polar Express did a little better), but it was a critical failure. Acc...

Well, whatever they did Hades was one hell of a villain. (Ha!) He and Jafar were by far the best Disney villains in a very long time.

I actually enjoyed King of Thieves as well. It was no Aladdin, but it wasn't Cinderella II either! And do I have a Return of Jafar horror story! For all those who watched it and hated it, imagine my torture! Return of Jafar was originally released back when I was working at Toys R Us. Normally, I wo...

I'd say that Brother Bear and Home on the Range are closer to a musical than Shrek and Shrek 2. The Shreks basically just used non-original pop songs as mood music. The two Disney films had original music used more as a part of the story telling.

And in other news, Pooh's Heffalump Movie opened a little below expectations in 5th place with $6 million according to Box Office Mojo. The film is getting good reviews however, with a 75% freshness rating on the Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer. ;) Seriously though, yes, Eisner just might be that ignora...

I get what you're saying, and I'm not saying the animators are not important. They are. But like you said, what about those who make the decisions. But this doesn't translate to other fields. In sports fans argue mostly about the players themselves and only occasionally about the management. Even i...

I did not say Katzenberg and the others were IN IT FOR THE MONEY, I said they WERE THE MONEY! What that means is they control the money and therefore a lot of the decision making process.

Come on guys! Eisner, Katzenberg, Roy Disney, Jobs - they're executives! None of them are the creative people involved in actually making cartoons - they're basically just the money! So why do they engender so much love and hate? Why is there not this kind of emotion about the animators or directors...

I would assume that this being Pixar, and since the fullscreen version is getting its own 2-disc set, that the film would be recomposed/reframed. Unlike Nemo's flat aspect ratio, The Incredibles is in scope so that might make recomposing a bit harder - though A Bug's Life was scope too, and they did...

Re: When will Jim Hill's site be good again??

It seems like he barely talks about animated films (at least newer, relevant ones) at all anymore. It's mostly just a lot of obscure stuff about the parks... A lot of people came to know him from his animation news this last year and may have just assumed that was his main subject area. But to be f...
