Waltz With Bashir was eligible for Best Animated Feature. It was on the final eligibility list with twelve other movies. Once a film gets to that level, there is no more promotion done by distributors. Members of the committee watch the films and vote. Once paperwork is filled out, distributors don...

Actually Horton Hears a Who and Waltz With Bashir should have been nominated. Blame it on all the studio who didn't submit there animated movies for consideration. There certainly was enough released last year to have five nominees. At least with three nominees, it keeps the category competitive. Th...

The thing, Waltz With Bashir was eligible in Best Animated Feature as well. It could still have won Foreign and taken a backseat to Pixar. The nomination, for me, is an act of recognition, despite it's chances of actually winning, but oh well, it can still boast the title of being an Oscar nominee.....

As much as I'm elated with the Bolt nomination (it's great to have a Disney film in the running after five years), I'm a little saddened by the omission of Waltz With Bashir . Everyone seems to ask, why so little "serious" animation? The snub suggests that not even American animators are quite ready...

History Made!
Well this is a truly historic day for animated feature films. Countries have been submitting animated features for Best Foreign Language Film since the days when Japan submitted Princess Mononoke , but one has never managed the nomination until now. I'm so glad Waltz With Bashir made the finalist li...

Waltz With Bashir
Waltz with Bashir has made the nine slots that constitutes the Oscar's longlist for Best Foreign Language Film! Here's hoping it becomes the first animated film to ever be nominated for that particular honor!

Yeah, I'm with James on this one. I don't understand how a Best Picture nomination and Best Animated Feature win are exclusive. In my mind, Wall-E is winning Best Animated Feature regardless of how it fares in other categories, so a Best Picture nomination would just be a bonus. It's hard for me to ...

Actually, I think the scenario with Shrek was the result of what early precursors were suggesting: that while Shrek was still a critical favorite, awards bodies in general were not listing it as anything but "Best Animated Feature." It's common for FYC ads to change tactics when the early groups are...

I'm excited that Bolt could actually get nominated for Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. It will be the first time since 2003 that an in-house Disney project will have been nominated. With its really good box-office and awards momentum, Waltz With Bashir needs to watch its back. Oh, and I'm surpr...

I'm surprised that Wall-E was out-nominated by Bolt and Kung Fu Panda. Not that those two features aren't great, but I just think Wall-E was missing a few nominations, especially in the music and writing departments. Just an interesting sidenote: The winner of the Best Animated Feature Oscar has ALW...

What is even more dissapointing is that only animators vote on who ends up a nominee. You would think animation professionals would want to see more than just one type of film (usually family-friendly) honored for their top award. When they do go "alternative," it's for films that are universally ac...

I just wanted to let everyone know about a little movie I saw last weekend, Rachel Getting Married . It's a stunner of an independent picture. Johnathon Demme, a director I usually associate with large scale Hollywood efforts, new exactly how to handle the motifs of intricate, personal filmmaking. T...
