Personally I think watching Totoro subtitled helps tremendously since the girls talk only about a quarter as much. I've found myself increasingly disinterested in Pixar's shorts which mostly seem to run one gag about as far as they can get away with it. Your Friend the Rat though is GREAT stuff, nearly surreal at times and very intelligent. Remy yelling out 'It's in their DNA!' was the best.

Don't forget the new anime of Tezuka's Phoenix series just came out on DVD in the US.

As a Tezuka fan I admit that I was rather turned off by the Unico designs (I've never seen it), but I've heard about this series on several forums now and I'm starting to get intrigued.

I started reading this thread thinking 'oh god, how much more can star trek be ruined', but I agree that the casting looks surprisingly good--and for a film like this, casting is everything. Assuming the film is directed & scripted well, they could actually use it to get a new series going.

You know, it is a miracle Gatchaman worked in the first place; the idea of US remakes (wasn't the original idea of the show mostly lost in US dubs to begin with???) seems like a recipe for disaster.

Edit: Astroboy US live action (or whatever) version...pretty much same recipe!

All this said, I went -all-the-way- and watched Bambi on my projector (65" diagnal) and really can't describe the experience. Bambi will remain for me one of the greatest animated films of all time, but to see it in this way is closest/truest to the way it was meant to be experienced. I'm only happy...
