The importance of the big screen

I'm sure most of us will acknowledge the importance of seeing movies in the theatre if possible; however this difference in viewing was blown out of proportion for me having a chance to watch Princess Mononoke again--but this time with the aid of a digital projector such that the screen size was eff...

I've been avoiding this because I know I won't be able to judge it fairly. Sometimes the first works for me and other times I can feel the boredom creeping up, but as an animated visual accomplishment, Bambi is certainly one of the greatest (I always think of it as the citizen kane of animation). We...

The problem in my mind is that animators don't just come out of nowhere. WD and PD represent a pretty unique style--yet where are the other products by those animators? They must exist but be so different in nature I haven't identified them, or I've just missed some wave of British animation. What r...

It seems to me sometimes there are just bad runs of DVDs. There are a few specific items where I've seen a whole slew of DVDs go bad (with some very specific symptoms--the discs themselves take on a 'hazy look' where the underside looks frosted with lines running through the disc that almost resembl...

Probably a stupid question but do we have any clue on the synopsis of the film? Like all pixar films, I always find the trailers are just far too short and uninformative. I really couldn't get a lot out of the Wall-E trailer other than it involved a robot.

RE: Plague Dogs There's also the question of which cut you're referring to. The truncated US version loses almost 20 minutes of material in a futile attempt to make it a more "family film" solely based on the fact that it was animated and they believed they could go after that audience. The original...

Love resurrecting old threads... The R4 dvd is well worth picking up if you enjoy this film. The new footage adds so much more, and it changes the pacing in a way that is critical to the film. All that said, get a region free player. They aren't even particularly expensive anymore or hard to come by...

Just saw it at an art house theatre last week. Interesting and worth watching, yet somehow less than I thought it would be; something about the flow of the film made me think it would go somewhere else and go on a bit longer.

I also have many faves, but if I had to pick one it would probably Golden Age Disney (The "big four"--Snow White, Dumbo, Pinocchio, Fantasia.) Quoted for truth; though other studios have their own periods of amazingness. My preference goes to any period where they are still hand shading/coloring th...

@Lion King> Don't forget the pretty sizable (yet officially denied) homage to Kimba.

Is Emperor's New Groove really based off of anything? Lilo and Stitch? Aristocats? (*cough* why do I remember that one...?)
